HMK Insurance traces its roots to 1914, when Arthur Hampson opened the A.B. Hampson Agency in Bethlehem, Pa.
The A.B. Hampson Agency specialized in fire, casualty and life insurance. In the late 1950s, Gordon Mowrer joined the agency. He initially concentrated on adding personal lines clients, and then, in an effort to expand our client base, Mr. Mowrer focused on building a commercial lines book of business for the agency. In 1960, as a result of his efforts, the agency was renamed the Hampson Mowrer Agency.
William Kreitz, HMK’s current president, joined the agency in 1973. After dedicating more than 20 years to the agency and its ever-expanding number of clients, Mr. Kreitz’s name was added in 1994, and we became the HMK Insurance Agency.
In order to differentiate ourselves from other insurance agencies, HMK has continuously focused on ways to deliver a high level of service to our customers. We believe that this is an inherent quality of our organization and the reason for our success. In the past 20 years, we have tripled our number of employees.
In 1998, in order to gain access to more markets for our clients and provide additional loss control and claims services, HMK became a founding member of The Insurance Alliance of Central Pennsylvania. Today this organization serves thousands of individual clients and has a written premium volume of $240 million.
In 2006, sensing an underserved need from our clients, we added a Group Benefits division to the agency that now handles all sizes of businesses with the same level of service that our customers have come to expect from HMK. In May 2012, HMK was pleased to announce its acquisition of the Reinhard Agency, which affords us the opportunity to serve hundreds of new clients in the greater Lehigh Valley area.
While celebrating our 100th anniversary in 2014, we are proud that we continue to focus on expanding our business while never losing sight of the importance of serving our customers. Building on the strong foundation of our past, we are excited about our future — and hope you want to join us!
